Welcome to the Chequers Inn
The Chequers Inn is a picturesque 16th century village pub brimming with character. Its public bar, restaurant and Wattle & Daub Tudor barn are among its most attractive features. The pub has a welcoming ambience with soft lighting, pictures of local scenes, beams and log fires burning through the winter.
There is plenty to do at the Chequers. There is a bat and trap pitch and a large garden for sunnier days. Inside, customers can enjoy the traditional pub games of shove ha’penny, cribbage and other card games. There is a regular quiz night.
As one might expect with such an historic pub, its regulars include a ghost called William – reputedly the spirit of an English Civil War roundhead hanged in the barn.
Children are welcome in our restaurant and high chairs are available. In the garden there is a play area.
Food & Drink
The menu features wholesome pub food, featuring old favourites such as sausage and mash, all freshly-made on the premises. The pub aims to serve unpretentious food, using quality seasonal ingredients, sourced locally whenever possible.
The barn is ideal for functions, such as wedding receptions and anniversary / birthday celebrations, as well as business meetings.
